Stake limits

How much can you bet on a UK online slot?

The law caps the total you can stake on each game cycle (one spin, including any feature it triggers).

£5 if you’re 25 or over

The £5 limit for all adults went live on 9 April 2025.

£2 if you’re 18 to 24

The lower limit for adults aged 18 to 24 went live on 21 May 2025.

Slots only

The limits apply to online slots only. They don’t apply to other casino games such as roulette or blackjack.

Game design

What a licensed slot can’t do

The Gambling Commission’s technical standards (RTS 14) set how online games must behave.

No spins faster than 2.5 seconds

There must be at least 2.5 seconds between starting one spin and starting the next. You have to press and release the spin button (or take an equivalent action) each time.

No turbo, quick spin or slam stop

A game can’t let you speed up the time it takes to show the result. This applies to all online casino games.

No celebrating losses

A game can’t play win sounds or animations when you get back the same as, or less than, you staked.

A slot that lets you bet more than £5 a spin, or offers turbo spins, isn’t following UK rules. If you’re in Great Britain, that usually means the site isn’t licensed by the Gambling Commission. Here’s how to check a casino’s licence.
